Interview Report

On Tuesday 26th February 2013 at 4:30 pm in F16 classroom Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Zaabi was nominated among other candidates to be interviewed for a Finance Manager vacant position in Emirates Advance Investments.  I had to adopt the role of Human Resource interviewer while my colleague Saqer pretended to be the Chief Finance officer due his massive knowledge at Finance. On the other hand, Mr. Hedley had the privilege as he is the Academic Spoken Communication teacher to lead the interview by welcoming Mr. Abdul Rahman with a brief of the company and vacant position ending with the usual question, “ tell me about yourself”.

Since the minute he stepped in Mr. Abdul Rahman seemed to me that he had the ebullient character. He had the initiative and the great appearance, which showed his self-confidence.  Once he started his answers, I knew that he had the personality of a manager. His answer was “ A family man and a father of 4 kids with 10 years experience at the Central Federal Bank based in Abu Dhabi. Graduated with Diploma certificate from HCT in 2000”.  I felt the honesty in his answer because his voice tone, body language and eyes were reacting as per his answer. I had turned the usual questions upside down by starting from the last question in any interview “ Do you have any questions?” to manipulate him in order to ensure if he is really self controled and organized in his thoughts or he was pretending to be under control. His answer was intuitive and quick. He was fluent in his speaking and I admired his organized thoughts and the sequence of his replies. Saqer asked him questions related to finance and he seemed to answer correctly.

My recommendations to concerns were clear: to speed up the hiring process with Abdul Rahman as he possesses the skills, knowledge and personality the position required. I’m sure that he will be a great addition to the company in general and to the finance department in particular.
