Presentation report

On Monday afternoon 3rd, June 2013 in classroom F16 at HCT. Mr. Saud had made his presentation in the subject of MacDonald.

Saud as always seems ready to present with a great self-confidence and well prepared. He started the power point presentation slides and set in the left of the white board screen blocking the corner area for the audience into his left side. Compared to my first great impression about Saud in his first report, which got a great appreciation from Mr. Hedly and I felt that I have to beat Saud to be the best student in English class. Unfortunately, I had found many disappointing points on Sauds presentation shacked me down.

Even though Saud started his presentation with a fast brief of the presentation content. Which identify his improvement and his well preparing. While his presentation, closing your eyes for a minute will dazzle you as you are listening to a fluent speaker or he had English rates from on of his parents. But once you open your eyes you will relies that his eyes never raised up to from the paper in his hand. It was a lack of eyes contact with audience in the room. Not only an eye contact was missing but also his voice tone was in single level never matched the picture nor the topics of the presentations pages. Presentation slides were about slides but he was talking as reading an article not points or main ideas from the slide. I felt it was collecting pictures for a report not a report supported with pictures. More than that, his presentation was about the negative ethical, practices and bad affects of their food on human and their big advertising campaign to attract more customers. He was against buying burgers from MacDonald while I sew his twice at the college cafeteria with a MacDonald meal on his table. Maybe this what had changed my opinion on his presentation but I still feel that he didn’t reach his earlier level in the first presentation.

Over all, he did his work on time and fulfilled the report instructions in his presentation.

Semi – Formal Presentation Report Assignment

Abdulla Al Mazrouei
ID h 00237186
F16 class room, HCT, Abu Dhabi
6th May, 2013.  3:15 pm

Even though Abdulla started his presentation by “ I will talk today about my best and only car and the brand I love, Nissan Patrol”. It was a strong introduction but when the time passed and the presentation was going I didn’t feel excitement I felt it was fading away.

Anyway he was well prepared and he introduced his subject simply and it was short but fulfilled. Left, right, up, down, front line and rear his eyes were all over the place and I felt all the time that he was talking to me directly, as the others felt. Referring to his eye contact I would assume either he had trained how to present and attract the audience or it is neither his first nor the tenth time he had to present.  Standing at the side of the white board gives all the audience the full vision area. Although the slides were extra long 14 pages with few topic points, but it was satisfying. It gave us the information we needed about the topic. I would recommend him to change the font style into a more sporty fancy style to reach the perfection of his work. I felt he spoke honestly and was well prepared as he didn’t use any note cards. There was great rhythm in his tone. He used a high tone when he described the power of the car while he used a stable tone in describing the features of the car.

I felt I was watching a TV commercial. Such organizing, interacting with the speech and confidence convince me that he has got great confidence in his manner and his work.

H 00254759   Mr. AbdulRahman Al Zaabi as Chairman.
H 00213881   Mr. Salem Al Shehhi as minutes taker, Secretary.
S 960003762  Mr. Faisal Al Hosani as Participant.

Venue preparation:
Square table & 3 chairs.
A4 white paper for notes.

Agenda: Identify the traffic & car parking problems to find suitable solutions.

1- Using an idea of first come first served.
2-Opportunity for investments
3-Long term solution.

By going through the items of the agenda we will establish not just possible solutions but solutions which we feel will be viable.  We will discuss how we are going to solve the issue theoretically and practically by introducing ideas such as using the idea of first come first serve. By the conclusion of this meeting, we should have in place sufficient agreed proposals to make recommendations.

The problem:
v Mr. Abdulrahman received many complains regarding the car parking listed as follows:
·      Both morning and afternoon students complained of lack space.
·      Many students raised the issue of incorrect parking.
·      One of the afternoon students complained with regard to blocking the entrance by some careless drivers.
v Solutions:
·      Divided into 2 solutions:
A.     Short term and fast action.
§  Fast, easy and NO cost.
-                Clarified by first come first served. The earliest you come the better parking spot you get. The later you come the harder it is to find a parking space.
-                A daily appearance of a police petrol to enforce the traffic regulations and to implement the traffic rules or they also can fine the offenders.
B.     Long term business opportunity:
1.     Rent half of the parking area to a valet parking company for either monthly or annual rent.
2.     Building a malty floors parking building by two options:
-                Ministry of High Education as sponsor by increasing the budget.
-                Students as shareholders of the project with annual bonus.
v Recommendations:
1-             A letter with the proposal to the Ministry of Higher Education to sponsor the parking building or to approve the shareholding idea.
2-             In case of rejection from the Ministry of Higher Education a new meeting will be held on 2-4-2013 to discuss the status.

Interview Report

On Tuesday 26th February 2013 at 4:30 pm in F16 classroom Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Zaabi was nominated among other candidates to be interviewed for a Finance Manager vacant position in Emirates Advance Investments.  I had to adopt the role of Human Resource interviewer while my colleague Saqer pretended to be the Chief Finance officer due his massive knowledge at Finance. On the other hand, Mr. Hedley had the privilege as he is the Academic Spoken Communication teacher to lead the interview by welcoming Mr. Abdul Rahman with a brief of the company and vacant position ending with the usual question, “ tell me about yourself”.

Since the minute he stepped in Mr. Abdul Rahman seemed to me that he had the ebullient character. He had the initiative and the great appearance, which showed his self-confidence.  Once he started his answers, I knew that he had the personality of a manager. His answer was “ A family man and a father of 4 kids with 10 years experience at the Central Federal Bank based in Abu Dhabi. Graduated with Diploma certificate from HCT in 2000”.  I felt the honesty in his answer because his voice tone, body language and eyes were reacting as per his answer. I had turned the usual questions upside down by starting from the last question in any interview “ Do you have any questions?” to manipulate him in order to ensure if he is really self controled and organized in his thoughts or he was pretending to be under control. His answer was intuitive and quick. He was fluent in his speaking and I admired his organized thoughts and the sequence of his replies. Saqer asked him questions related to finance and he seemed to answer correctly.

My recommendations to concerns were clear: to speed up the hiring process with Abdul Rahman as he possesses the skills, knowledge and personality the position required. I’m sure that he will be a great addition to the company in general and to the finance department in particular.
